March 1, 2011
On the evening of Tuesday, February 22, 2011, Cambridge Who's Who sponsored a complimentary webinar titled “Winning Strategies for Creating a Stellar Résumé!” With registration exclusive to Cambridge members, available spots filled up quickly, yielding more than 500 registrants from across a spectrum of major industries.
Lisa G. Parker, a Certified Professional Résumé Writer, provided valuable information to help Cambridge Who's Who members make their résumés stand out in a highly competitive job market. Donald Trump Jr., executive director of global branding and networking for Cambridge Who's Who, moderated the presentation along with Erica Lee, chief operating officer for the organization.
The webinar was a resounding success, as Ms. Parker delivered constructive tips and advice that one would not readily find without first consulting a human resource or résumé and curriculum vitae writing specialist. After covering the bases on formats and lengths, Ms. Parker dispensed top tactics to ensure a much sought-after interview takes place. During her interactive presentation, webinar attendees answered poll questions, sharing their opinions on résumé preparation.
After a seamless disclosure of Ms. Parker’s specialized knowledge and expertise, Erica Lee opened the floor for a Q&A session that incited lively discussion about the do’s and don’ts of résumé writing. Attendees submitted their best inquiries, often relating them to their own fields and disciplines. Cambridge Who's Who received a flood of great questions from interested members via an online chat function and prolonged the conference call to accommodate as many of them as possible.
Nearing the webinar’s conclusion, Ms. Parker promised to send a copy of a workbook she prepared expressly for the group. All graciously accepted and even wrote in to Cambridge Headquarters during the following weeks to ensure they received their copy. Donald Trump Jr. concluded the presentation with a valuable tidbit of advice when Ms. Lee asked him, “What do you look for when hiring a candidate or screening a résumé?” His response echoed Ms. Parker’s guidance as he shed light on his own approach to evaluating prospective employees.
“[A résumé] really has to grab you,” Trump Jr. stated. “If you go on and just give…pages and pages, you’re probably [promoting] the next person in line.” He also noted that qualities and experiences that go beyond an applicant’s professional skills certainly influence his final decision to choose one candidate over another. “I like to see their academic accomplishments and [then] get to know them a little bit [more] personally,” he elaborated.
Cambridge Who's Who has plans to host additional online seminars in the near future.
