Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Allen started her career as a paraprofessional teaching kindergarten, first-grade and second-grade as well as assisting in a mathematics laboratory. She was a technology paraprofessional working with an integrated learning program for children. This integrated learning program enhanced students’ academic success in reading, mathematics, science, social studies, computer science and writing. She was responsible for the weekly reports, inventory of the school's equipment such as computer hardware and software and for troubleshooting. Ms. Allen was a homeroom teacher for three years in second and third grade and later she became an English as a second language teacher. Her goal is to teach students to become proficient in English. She incorporates two methods for her English language learners in the classroom. The first method is to meet the needs of all individual students and the second method is to encourage students to support each other while learning in the classroom. She has also held different positions such as the director of an after school program, coordinator for Georgia Crossroads Summer Enrichment Program, consultant for the YMCA's after school program, instructor for the English for speakers of other languages tutorial program, instructor for title I tutorial program and instructor for the outreach program to teach adults English learners. She is currently with Jolly Elementary School, which is a ‘Title I Distinguished School’, having 34 different languages, and the school has made adequate yearly progress for six years in the state of Georgia.
